Ricky Hatton, the British boxing legend and former world champion has insisted that his protégé Martin Murray boasts of the same fearless attitude that held him in good stead during his career and propelled him to championship glory. Murray travels to Latin America next week ahead of his showdown against Argentine boxing legend and the current Middleweight champion Sergio Martinez on the 27th of April.
Hatton, who is a former world champion in two weight divisions, is currently acting as a promoter for the boxer who hails from St. Helen’s and will be present at ring side when Murray takes on Martinez at Buenos Aires. And according to The Hitman, Murray is absolutely not fazed at the prospect of facing the best Middleweight fighter in the world at the moment and is taking the challenge in his stride.
Murray was involved in an in-ring brawl against the World Boxing Association or the WBA Super world title holder Felix Strum back in 2011 and Hatton insists that fight has added to his confidence ahead of this fight against Sergio Martinez. And with a mere two weeks between now and the fight, Hatton finds himself extremely buoyed by the relaxed attitude that his protégé is displaying.
Hatton stated that one of the things he is capable of is he can tell which fighter has the potential to be a world champion just by looking at their attitude and added that from the very first day he met Murray, he has thought he has that in hordes.
He stated that Murray wasn’t awestruck when they traveled to Argentina for the press conference ahead of the fight against Sergio Martinez and believes he won’t be there just to make up the numbers and has insisted that he will give the Argentine a run for his money.

World Boxing Council or the WBC Middleweight champion Sergio Martinez has often been regarded as a man of his words and having promised to knockout his undefeated challenger Martin Murray when the two meet next month, the Argentine is working hard to follow through on the promise that he made for the bout that is scheduled for the 27th of April at the Club Atletico Velez Sarsfield stadium in the suburbs of Buenos Aires. Martinez, who has a professional career record of 50-2-2 with 28 knockout wins, will have his first fight on home soil since 2002.
Murray had long been running his mouth against the Argentine, who is considered by many as among the greatest Middleweight fighters to have graced the boxing ring in recent past, drawing comparisons with past greats, threatening to knock him out and humiliate him. But Martinez, who is otherwise very cool when it comes to verbal confrontations promised to give the undefeated pugilist a fight he will never forget, and also promised him a knockout.
Speaking about the fight, Sergio Martinez stated that the situation is in the favor of Murray who has nothing to lose and all to gain. He added that this means he will not suffer from a lack of motivation when it comes to the fight. He went on to add that he believes he will give it his all and try and reach the final bell before adding that he will also try and live up to the promise he made – try and knock him out by the eighth round.
Sergio Martinez further mentioned that he will be well prepared for the fight, both physically and mentally so that he can deal with fighting against someone who is a lot younger and fitter compared to him in front of home support.

Britain’s unbeaten Middleweight fighter Martin Murray will be heading into the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires on the 27th of April to take on the World Boxing Council or the WBC Middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. The bout will be taking place at the Club Atletico Velez Sarsfield stadium that seats 50,000 people in what is going to be the biggest challenge faced by an English boxer overseas in recent years. Murray is promoted by Ricky Hatton, a legend in his own right in the British boxing scene and according to him; his charge has a huge task on his hands.
Hatton acknowledged that the match against one of the greatest boxers to hail from Argentina in recent years in Martinez will be much like scaling a mountain for his charge. Hatton stated that Martin is very much aware of the fact that he is heading into the lion’s den for the match against Sergio Martinez where he is undoubtedly the underdog against arguably the best Middleweight fighter in the world at present as well as one of the best pound for pound fighters.
But Hatton also stated that the pairing reminds him of his own match against Tszyu where he was not even given the slimmest chances when he was on the top of his game. But like the case with any good champion, the reign inevitably comes to end and there is always an up and coming fighter to take his place. He went on to state that at 37 years of age, Sergio Martinez has shown signs in recent fights that he is not unbeatable and Martin has to exploit any weakness.
But Hatton is aware that Martinez is too experienced in big matches and he is surely going to start the match off as a sure favorite.
